| The Hong Kong Theravada Meditation Society is a registered
charitable organization whose purpose is to promote the meditation tradition
of Theravada Buddhism and encourage the practise of Buddhism in daily life. |
 |
| Between 1997 and 1998, some lay disciples followed
our teacher, Ajahn Samahito, to learn meditation. There wasn’t a fixed
location to practise at the beginning, the group had to roam about in
regions such as North Point, Causeway Bay, Jardine’s Crescent, Leighton
Road and Heng Fa Chuen. |
 |
| In 1999, a lay disciple donated an apartment at Champagne
Court in Tsimshatsui, the group began to have a fixed location for meditation. |
 |
| In June 2000, Ajahn Samahito’s visa expired and he
therefore had to return to Thailand. In order to persuade Ajahn to stay
with us in Hong Kong to spread the dhamma, ‘Hong Kong Theravada Meditation
Society Limited’ was formally established in November 2001. |
